NEW DELHI -- The Indian Navy has ordered a Board of Inquiry (BoI) against a group of young sailors for alleged insubordination on board the survey ship, INS Sandhyak.

Navy sources told PTI that three or four junior sailors with up to 2.5 years of experience were made to disembark from the ship after the alleged incident.

In a statement, the Navy said that the INS Sandhayak, while on a routine deployment off Paradip in the Bay of Bengal, reported an incident of insubordination involving young sailors yesterday and that an inquiry had been ordered into the incident.

Sources who spoke on condition of anonymity told HuffPost India that one sailor was missing from INS Sandhyak's delicate routine operation of pulling aboard the four survey motor boats on Thursday evening. When questioned about his absence, the sailor reportedly spoke in a dismissive manner to the Commanding Officer and allegedly stood in a disrespectful pose, which irked one of the other officers on board.

Reportedly, a scuffle broke out between the officer and the absentee sailor. A little later, the sailor in question went to the officer's room with a group of his colleagues and beat him up.

According to NDTV, security teams had to be called in and a helicopter was also brought to remove the sailors from the ship.

If found guilty, the sailors will face action as per the provisions of the Navy Act.
