Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is set to take his long-pending trip to Tirumala, and offer gifts of precious jewels worth over ₹5 crore at the Tirupati temple on Wednesday.

According to a report on News18, Rao had pledged to offer precious ornaments to various gods and goddesses across south India if Telangana achieved independent statehood.

The NDTV reports that Rao will offer a "solid gold ornament" to the presiding deity at Tirupati, Lord Venkateshwara, and a gold nose ring to his consort, the goddess Padmavati.

According to the Hindu, Rao will reach Tirupati on Tuesday evening, and will visit the temple first thing on Wednesday morning. During the course of the trip, Rao will also attend a family function at the residence of former minister, P Sudharshan Reddy.

"Temple authorities are expecting Rao's son, daughter, and other cabinet colleagues, to accompany him," the report says.

In October last year, Rao had presented a 11.7 kg gold crown worth about ₹3.65 crore to goddess Bhadrakali in Warangal. The offering had raised many eyebrows as the funds for the gift were drawn from the state Common Good Fund of the Endowments Department, which is meant to renovate and help old, broken-down places of worship.
