In an incident reported from Lucknow, a couple diagnosed as HIV-positive allegedly committed suicide in the early hours of Monday.

According to a report in the Times of India, the couple who were in their mid-30s were found hanging at their residence in Preetinagar in Madiaon.

The man's parents came to know of the hanging after the couple's 10-month-old baby began crying aloud at around 2 am. Upon checking, they found their son and his wife hanging from the ceiling with a stole tied around their necks.

The man's father told Meenakshi Gupta, Aliganj police circle officer, that the couple was depressed after testing HIV-positive.

"I was shocked to hear about the test report and we were planning to go for expert advice for further line of treatment but before we could do that, they took the extreme step," he said.

A medical report and some anti-depressants were recovered from the couple's room, the officer investigating the case said.

The deceased man, who used to work with a private firm in Delhi, had developed rashes all over his body and had been advised to go for an HIV test by doctors in Lucknow.
