3 Creative Heads From Karan Johar's Dharma Productions Reveal The Secrets Of A Great Film Pitch

Filmmaking, as anyone who has had any experience with the industry knows, is an extremely competitive business.

And that holds true not only for aspiring actors but also for technicians, directors, and most of all, aspiring writers. You may have the vision but unless there's a credible production house or a studio that becomes a vehicle to propel it onto the big screen, the vision is futile.

A pressing question any writer asks himself/herself is who do I go to? How do I pitch my film? Will Karan Johar, Aditya Chopra, or a Rajkumar Hirani meet me?

To answer exactly those questions, the good folks at Anupama Chopra's Film Companion did an interview with the Creative Development team of Johar's Dharma Productions.

They gave some interesting insights into what goes behind greenlighting a project.

The team consists of three core members: Ryan Stephen, Nidhi Parmar, and Jugal Hansraj. Their job is to filter and skim through hundreds of scripts that land at Dharma.

Only the finest make it to Karan Johar's desk. Like 1 or 2 in a year!

While they offer a number of suggestions, one thing that all three agree on is that if you are a writer pitching a script, your story has to offer a fresh perspective even if it belongs to the tried-and-tested romcom genre.

A unique take.

The biggest put-off? Bad grammar.

"It means you don't take the writing seriously," says Jugal Hansraj.
