How A 9-Year-Old Girl Forced Dabur To Change Juice Packaging Over Gender Discrimination

Feminism's poster child.

Women all over the world are demanding equality, they are protesting and resisting hoping that some day men and women would get equal opportunities. But this story of a Guwahati school girl is perhaps an indication that change is actually happening.

The Hindustan Times reports that Dabur is actually going to change the packaging of their fruit juice 'Real' when the government intervened after a nine-year-old school girl wanted to ensure the message on the packaging which now says "Something that is good for your child should also make him smile" is made gender neutral.

The father of the girl, Mriganka Majumder, said that he had first written to Dabur asking the company to apologise for gender discrimination, but after the company gave no response, Majumder wrote to Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi.

Gandhi in turn wrote to Dabur and the company now plans to change the packaging even though they said that the packaging was not meant to be discriminatory.

Majumder told The Hindustan Times, "I know it's a small issue but the message that boys are getting more preference is disturbing. Prime Minister Narendra Modi talks of promoting Beti Bachao Beti Badhao and saving the girl child but the message gets diluted by such instances."

Moral of the story: the world is not going to change in one day, but a little push every now and then can make a sea of difference.
