KULGAM, Jammu and Kashmir -- Four militants and two army jawans have been killed in a gunbattle in Kulgam in south Kashmir, reported PTI. The militants were later identified as members of the Hizbul Mujahideen.
A civilian, who was the owner of the house where the militants were holed up, is also reported to have died during the encounter began early Sunday morning, and continued for several hours. Two other security personnel have been injured, reported ANI.
The operation reportedly began after security forces received information about a large number of militants in Nagabal Village in Frisal, about 70 kms south of Srinagar. The militants opened fire on the security forces, injuring five soldiers, reported PTI.
While two of them, identified as Lance Naik Raghuvir Sigh and Lance Naik Gopal Singh Badoria, succumbed, the condition of the other jawans is reported to be stable. Since then, four militants have been killed and their weapons recovered from the area. Three other militants reportedly escaped into the nearby jungle, reported PTI.
Out of the four militants, three have been identified as Mudasir Ahmed Tantray, Farooq Ahmed Dar and Azhar Ahmed.
