Hours before the meeting on Sunday afternoon in Chennai where AIADMK MLAs elected VK Sasikala as the leader of the legislative party and the next CM of Tamil Nadu, a man, who is allegedly an AIADMK worker, was beaten up by an AIADMK minister for tearing off posters of Chinamma, as Sasikala is popularly called.

The incident was recorded on camera and broadcast by television channel News X. The footage shows the man being beaten up by several others, among them being AIADMK Minister Rajendra Balaji, identified by a report in The News Minute.

TNM added that an AIADMK representative raised doubts about the authenticity of the video, particularly of the claim that the offender may have been a party worker.

Speaking to the news channel, C Rajasekaran said the man tearing the posters can in no way be associated with the party and that the matter needs to be investigated before any conclusions are drawn. He went on to emphasise that the AIADMK enjoys the reputation of being a disciplined party and all matters of dissent are solved internally.
