Employees of the Raj Bhavan in Shillong have, in a five-page letter to the Prime Minister's Office and the Rashtrapati Bhavan, demanded the removal of Meghalaya Governor V Shanmuganathan accusing him of compromising the dignity of his office.

The Indian Express reports that the letter, by 80 employees of the Shillong Raj Bhavan, says that the Governor has allegedly turned the Raj Bhavan into "a young ladies club" and that his behaviour has hurt the decorum of the Raj Bhavan and has caused "severe humiliation and mental stress" to the employees.

Meanwhile, a job aspirant who applied for the post of the public relations officer, has allegedly accused the governor of "inappropriate behaviour". The governor, however, has denied these allegations.

The Hindustan Times quoted the governor as saying, "I wanted to meet them (the job aspirants) before finalising the candidates and they all came. Everyone was there for half an hour. I have great respect for everyone. I have not done anything wrong."

The victim has said that the governor had behave inappropriately by hugging and kissing her.

The Indian Express report the employees saying in the letter, "The worst problem is that the Raj Bhavan has now under this Governor become a place where young ladies come and go at will with direct orders from the Governor. The security of the Governor's house is also being seriously compromised."

Shanmuganathan, on the other hand, has alleged that these allegations were level against him because some candidates were not selected.

He told The Shilling Times, "No it is not right... all these things are not right... we have selected only one person and some people were not selected and because they were not selected they should not say all these things."

He said the candidates were like his daughters and granddaughters.
