An Opposition MLA in Bihar from the Rashtriya Lok Samata Party asked students at Ambedkar Government Girls High School in Vaishali district uncomfortable questions about the rape and murder of one of their classmates.
The body of the murdered school girl was recently found in a pool of blood near the main school gate. It has been alleged she was gang-raped before being killed, even though the post-mortem report suggests otherwise.
Addressing a group of girls between the ages of 10 and 15, MLA Lallan Paswan asked them to give him the details of what exactly happened with their friend.
Most of the girls were too taken aback to say anything, one of them even said they couldn't get into the details. At this point Paswan decided to try another tactic. "Which part of her body was full of blood? Was it the lower half?" he asked them.
After hesitating for a moment, the girl did answer in the affirmative, only to be reprimanded by Paswan for her initial reluctance to get into the details.
"This means she was gang-raped before being murdered. Why are you afraid of speaking up the truth? If criminals enter the hostel and into your room and this happens to you, what will you do if you don't speak now?" he said.
RLSP chief and Union minister Upendra Kushwaha has reportedly berated Paswan for his insensitivity.
