A 23-year-old techie from Kolkata, who was working with an IT firm in Pune, was allegedly hacked to death by on the outskirts of the city, police said on Sunday. The accused, still unidentified had been stalking her.
The Times of India reports that Antara Das, who was from Sarsuna in Behala, was an employee of Capgemini.
Antara Das was attacked with a sharp-edged weapon at around 8 pm on Saturday when she was returning home from work near Tathwade area, a senior police official of Dehuroad Police Station said.
According to the Times of India report, after being stabbed Das ran towards people screaming "bachao, bachao" and collided with the motorcyclist Satyandra Krushnanand Sinha, who then rushed her to the hospital where she was declared brought dead.
"Das was rushed to a nearby hospital. However, she was declared dead on arrival," he said.
While her father rushed to Pune on Saturday, her uncle Panchanan Das told The Telegraph, "We got a call from the police station informing us that she has been admitted to hospital in a serious condition. A youth was stalking her ever since she shifted to Pune from Bangalore in April this year. This youth may have had a role in the attack."
The uncle, as quoted by The Telegraph report, said that she was planning to move to another paying guest accommodation because of the stalking.
According to the officer, robbery angle has been ruled out as the valuables the woman was carrying were intact.
A case was registered in this regard, police said, adding a probe was underway.
