Metal Clad Moto M Launched In India At ₹15999 With AMOLED Display

Moto M marks the start of new series by Motorola with a premium design.

Till last year, Moto phones were divided among E,G, and X series of smartphones. But this year the company has expanded its portfolio. After launching the modular Z series, it has launched Moto M which is a metal-clad mid-range phone.

The idea behind the new series is to give a premium look and feel to a mid-range phone. Something which Samsung has been doing with the Galaxy A series. Moto M comes with a 5.5 inch full HD sAMOLED display and a 2.5D glass protecting the screen. It is a departure from the LCD panel used in Moto G plus.

Under the hood, it is using MediaTek Helio P15 Octa core processor. Interestingly, Moto G uses Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 and the parent company's Lenovo Z2 Plus uses Snapdragon 820. Perhaps this decision was taking considering the price.

The phone comes with two variants for the RAM and the internal memory. The first one has a RAM of 3 GB and the internal memory of 32 GB. The higher end version carries a RAM of 4 GB and the internal memory of 64 GB. The lower end version cost ₹15999.

The rear camera of the phone is a 16 MP shooter with an aperture of f/2.0. On the other hand, Motorola has decided to put an 8 MP sensor on the front.

Moto M has a battery capacity of 3050 mAh which supports fast charging of 2A. It has a USB 3.1 type C port. While the phone will ship with stock Android Marshmallow 6.0 it is expected that it will receive the Android Nougat 7.0 update very soon.

The biggest competitor for the smartphone will be Lenovo's own Moto G4 Plus and Lenovo Z2 Plus. Moto M will go on sale exclusively on Flipkart from 14 December. Lenovo group has had a successful year in India as it is standing on the second spot in terms of smartphone shipments in the third quarter.
