Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur, who sprang up on the Bollywood scene as independent stars with Aashiqui 2, are once again paired together in the Karan Johar-produced, Ok Jaanu. The film has been directed by Shaad Ali, whose most memorable film so far is Saathiya.
While the choice of the title is indeed questionable, the trailer isn't half as bad.
Maybe it's the treatment of Adi-Shraddha's youthful romance, shown through a gold-tinted lens, or the soothing music by AR Rahman that plays addictively in the background, there's something oddly charming about the trailer that was unveiled today.
A tale of two passionate lovers who choose to live in together over marriage, the film's chief conflict arises when the couple's respective professional ambitions threaten to derail their idyllic romance.
Shraddha and Aditya bring a sense of earnestness to their parts and share a very comfortable, effortless chemistry, which is both casual and intense.
When they interact with other, they give a sense of people who've known each for a long time.
Perhaps their real-life relationship (they were dating at one point) has a part to play in bringing out the authenticity, just in the way Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone do.
As is widely known, the film is a remake of Mani Ratnam's Dulquer Salmaan-Nithya Menen starrer Ok Kanmani, and committed fans of the original may not immediately warm up to the Bollywodised version, like was the case on social media.
But let's see how the film fares on January 13, when it is expected to open in theaters.
