Kapil Sharma has gained a terrific amount of popularity owing to his show, The Kapil Sharma show, formerly known as Comedy Nights with Kapil.

The original show used to air on Colors but due to major differences with the channel, Kapil opted out.

In less than a month, he was snagged by Colors' GEC rival, Sony.

Now, according to a report in DNA, Sharma's annual contract with Sony has been renewed for an astronomical sum of Rs. 110 crores.

Quoting a source, the report said, "Kapil is getting a whopping Rs 110 crore for his renewed year long stint with Sony and the makers are very happy with him and his show. They didn't mind the pocket pinch because his show is the most profitable venture for them currently and they can't let it go."

It goes without saying that this deal makes Sharma one of the highest paid artists on television although Salman Khan still remains the most generously paid one (about Rs. 6-8 crore per episode of Bigg Boss, according to many reports.)

The Kapil Sharma Show generates a great TRP for Sony and is routinely in the Top 5 most-watched TV shows.

HuffPost India reached out to Sharma and the TV channel for a comment on the deal but both remained unavailable.
