Have Stopped Getting Work Since The Time My Wedding Was Announced, Says South Actress Samantha Ruth

Another instance of blatant sexism in the film industry.

In what highlights yet another case of sexism in the film business, southern star Samantha Ruth Prabhu has come out and said that her decision to get married directly affected the work she was getting in the Tamil and Telugu film industries.

Samantha has been a top star who has done super successful films like Theri, Eega, 24, and several others.

The actress recently announced her marriage plans with Naga Chaitanya, who is the son of Telugu superstar Nagarjuna.

In an interview with Deccan Chronicle, she said, "The day my marriage plans were announced, the offers dried up. Just like that! I was like... what happened? I am the same actress. I've given back-to-back hits throughout the year. My Tamil film 24 and my Telugu films A Aa and Janatha Garage were hits. So why am I suddenly being shunned?"

The actress confidently said that she's ready to face the challenges and isn't going anywhere. Her to-be husband, Naga Chaitanya has been supportive and according to her, he has gone out of the way to let the industry know that she intends to continue working.

She said in the same interview, "Producers are now murmuring, 'How can we work with her? She is Nagarjuna's daughter-in-law."

Although Nagarjuna, it appears, does not have any reservations about her continuing to work.

"In fact, he asked me if I will continue to work? He was more worried than I was that I'd give up my career after marriage. I just need to dispel the Telugu and Tamil cinema's insecurities about married actresses. I don't know about others. But I am not going anywhere after marriage."

She added not just films, even endorsement offers have started to dry up.

"Although there is uncertainty about my future in the film industry, thankfully there is no uncertainty about my future in his family. Even the endorsement offers I was getting have been curtailed. It's as though I've already left. It's bizarre."

The scenario in Bollywood is no different although slowly, things seem to be changing for the better. Case in point being Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Kareena Kapoor, who continue to reign over Bollywood, with marriage not being the determining factor for the work they get, just like how it should be.
