Remember That Bizarre Amreli Municipality Order To Restrict Cattle Dung At 3 Kg? That's Not Happening.

A day after the Congress-ruled Amreli municipality issued an order restricting defecation by cattle on public roads and devised rules on how much dung a cow or buffalo may excrete daily, the district collector of Rajkot stayed the implementation of the order.

By issuing the strange order, the Amreli municipality allegedly ridiculed the government's decision to demonetise ₹500 and ₹1000 currency notes to curb corruption. In an equally bizarre explanation, they drew parallels between restricting the dung that a cow could excrete and demonetisation.

According to the Times of India, Amreli Congress MLA Paresh Dhanani is said to be behind the mockery of demonetisation.

"There are no provisions in the municipality rules to punish those citizens who fail to abide the civic body rules. Therefore, it has been stayed," Amreli collector Dileep Kumar Rana said in his order issued on Saturday.

The municipality, in its 1 December order, had designated specific spots for cattle to excrete and also, set a daily limit of 3 kg for the adult cattle and 1 kg for the calves. Moreover, the order stated that the cattle owners would be humiliated and paraded on a donkey in town if they failed to keep a check on their animals' excreta.

The TOI report also states that the municipality president called this order an 'exemplary and novel' step taken in 'national interest', with the aim to help Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the mission of 'clean city, clean India and healthy India'. The Amreli civic body plans on constituting a special flying squad to measure the weight and size of the cattle dung.

"Over 95% of Amreli town is with us (mocking Modi's online survey where he claimed 95% people support his demonetisation decision) and only black money hoarders are against civic body's decision," Dhanani told TOI.
