The new and the old customers of Reliance Jio will be able to use free data until March 2017, Reliance Chairman Mukesh Ambani announced today.
In October, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) directed the telecom operator to end its welcome offer by 3 December. The company will start a new offer called the 'Happy new year offer', under which the customers buying Jio SIM cards from 4 December will be able to use free data, voice, and premium subscriptions to Jio applications until March 2017.
The old customers will be rolled on to this offer automatically on 31 December. The major change is that the free daily data cap will be reduced to 1 GB from 4 GB.
Ambani said that the company will start supporting full MNP (Mobile Number Portability) starting today to port the same number on the Jio network.
The company recently started the home delivery of the Jio cards to the individuals. The delivery is on invite-basis and the users are selected from Jio. The company is also investing in different sectors such as home entertainment, fast internet, mobile wallet and more.
Ambani hailed the growth the of the network and compared it with WhatsApp and Facebook's user acquisition rate.
