At least four terrorist and three Indian Army soldiers, including an officer, were killed when terrorists stormed into an artillery unit early this morning. The artillery unit is positioned with the Nagrota based 16 Corps of the Indian Army.

In a separate incident the Border Security Force (BSF) intercepted and eliminated a group of another three terrorists at Ramgarh sector. Three soldiers of the BSF, including an officer, were injured.

In the first incident terrorists stormed an army garrison – the base of an artillery unit – in Nagrota early this morning. "Casualties can go up," a senior Indian army officer said.

Firing at the artillery base continues and army suspects more terrorist are hold up in the base.

The terrorists managed to enter the garrison before being cornered in a building. The Indian Army, however, has refused to make an official comment.

The crucial 16 Corps of the Indian Army - tasked to defend the Line of Control and International Border with Pakistan along Jammu - is based in Nagrota.

Locals reported heavy firing from inside. Sources said that the terrorists were armed with Under-Barrel Grenade Launchers and sophisticated automatic weapons.

"We aren't yet sure of the exact number of terrorist inside the garrison but from the arc of firing observed indicates the number of terrorist to be several ," a senior officer said.

Army sources told HuffPost India that the terrorists stormed the base of the artillery unit at about 5:45 am this morning. "The first grenade blast was reported at about 5:50 am this morning," sources said.

Simultaneously, the BSF has pinned down a group of at least three heavily armed terrorists infiltrating in Chamliyal in the Ramgarh Sector. A large quantity of arms, ammunition and war like stores have been recovered from the killed terrorist.

"The terrorist pinned at Chamliyal infiltrated today morning. As they were making their way into the hinterland they were detected by the BSF. We aren't, however, sure of when the terrorist who have stormed the army garrison entered India," a senior security official said.

India till now has lost about 18 soldiers – 13 of the Indian Army and five of the BSF – since November 29 when India carried out surgical strikes destroying as many as seven terror launch pads in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir.
