ANANDPUR SAHIB, INDIA - NOVEMBER 25: Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a function to mark 350th Birth Anniversary Celebrations of Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji at Anandpur Sahib Gurudwara on November 25, 2016 in Anandpur Sahib, India.

Stepping up her attack against Prime Minister Narendra Modi on demonetisation, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today called him "a bad politician and a worse administrator" who is spreading lies and relaxing even as the common people continue to suffer.

"Modi ji has lost all credibility. A bad politician and even worse administrator. He is lying," she said in a statement here.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief, who is at the forefront of the opposition attack against the Modi government on the issue, said, "All opposition is united, and you are divided!"

She also claimed that Rs 1.28 lakh crore had been lost forever due to the scrapping of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes.

"Shocking that Rs 1.28 lakh crore has been lost forever due to note-ban only in 'transactions' in the country, according to CMIE, a top research body. World-famous Moody's says 'note ban will badly disrupt economic activity'," she said.

"Common people are suffering miserably while Modi ji is relaxing and spreading lies," she said.

Meanwhile, other members of the Opposition were furious that the Prime Minister refused to answer questions or speak in the Parliament, but attacked them in speeches made outside the Parliament. They alleged that in the speeches made elsewhere, the PM had insinuated that all the parties in the Opposition were in 'favour of black money'.

A report in The Indian Express states: "The government, however, rejected their demand. Members of Congress, Trinamool Congress, SP, BSP and the Left created an uproar in Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha, taking strong objection to the Prime Minister's remarks which they said was an "insult" of Parliament."

The Prime Minister spoke at length about the move at AIIMS Bhatinda yesterday. He then spoke at Anandpur Sahib as well.

BSP chief Mayawati said, "Either he should prove it or apologise to the House. The Prime Minister is talking on the issue repeatedly outside the House, not inside the House. He is saying had the Opposition been given 72 hours before this decision, it would not have launched an attack on him. He has made an allegation that the Opposition is backing black money. He should apologise."

The Indian Express reports that leader of the Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad has said that the PM's allegation was an insult to the Parliament and all MPs.

Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party to upped the ante with its protests. They alleged that the demonetisation has shown the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has "turned" into a mouthpiece of the Centre under the Narendra Modi government.

Party spokesperson Raghav Chadha said the RBI's status as an institution beyond politicking has taken a hit due to the "fiasco" in the wake of the currency restriction measure announced on November 8.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi has turned RBI into a BJP mouthpiece. It makes misleading statements in the public. Modi has eroded the credibility of all institutions including and the central bank is the latest casualty. Only PM is responsible for the situation RBI finds itself in," he told a press conference.
