While the country is in the throes of an unprecedented cash crunch battling black money, Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Ram Kadam tweeted this week that he had gifted his son a fancy Mercedes Benz convertible.
Kadam, the MLA from Mumbai's Ghatkopar West constituency, tweeted: "#HappyBirthday to my dearest son @AumRKadam !!! This my loving gift for him !!!"
Twitter was quick to take notice and called out the seemingly misplaced present for a child who clearly looks like a minor. Sure, Kadam can argue that the gift doesn't mean his minor son will himself drive the car, but it nonetheless attracted attention because Indian politicians don't typically like to be seen flaunting their wealth.
Kadam was recently in the news for threatening comedian Kapil Sharma with a protest outside his residence after he had publicly complained about having to allegedly pay a Rs 5 lakh bribe to municipal officials of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
