"The Crown" will give an intimate look into the private lives of Queen Elizabeth II, portrayed by actress Claire Foy, and the Royal Family. The period drama, which premieres on Nov. 4, follows the Queen from before her coronation to the first few years of her reign. All 10 episodes of the first season are available now on Netflix Canada.

Harris found that the royals had a lot in common with ordinary citizens.

"You can’t take for granted that they were a family that had all the same things that we have," Harris says. "They experience what we have with our own family, bonding, and the same expectations and the hopes as individuals."

For Kirby, playing the Queen's sister helped humanize the royals. "The Crown" depicts Princess Margaret's real-life affair with a married man, which affected the Windsor sisters' relationship.

"I definitely have more admiration for them now knowing what they have to carry out," Kirby says.
