Cricketers Chris Gayle And Dwayne Bravo Recreate 'Champion' For An Indian Condom Brand

Championing what?

Earlier this year, West Indian cricketer Dwayne "DJ" Bravo's song "Champion" became a rage on social media during the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup in India. With every win, West Indians were seen celebrating their victory in hotel lobbies and dressing rooms while rocking the signature step.

"Champion" is back again. Dwayne Bravo and Chris Gayle have been roped in as brand ambassadors for the condom brand Skore. And as a part of their association, the cricketers are seen promoting the Skore condoms product range while re-creating the "Champion" song for an Indian audience.

On his association with the brand, Bravo said to DNA, "Everyone deserves to have some fun but it's even more important to be responsible. That is what a real champion does. I am excited to be able to encourage others to do just that by recreating Champion for Skore along with Chris."

Gayle added, "I hope this partnership can break stereotypes while also promoting the innovative offerings of the brand."

Although the message is a positive one, the video unfortunately sticks to the commonest stereotypes of women fetishized as nurses, policewomen and air hostesses. The women pirouette in front of the camera as cops in leather micro-minis, and the dancers wear bra-lets and Dhoti pants.

The song lyrics have been tweaked for the ad and some of it goes like:

"Khel ka champion, Pyaar ka Champion

Game ka champion, Move ka Champion,

Why be a player, when you can be a Champion

Lissen mi, lissen, bad boy make a Champion

You could be an Indiaan, West Indiaan, Caribbean,

Lissen mi, lissen, bad boy make a Champion

Why be a player, when you can be a Champion

Lissen mi, lissen, bad boy make a Champion"
