AMD India, makers of processors and graphics hardware, has partnered with film director SS Rajamouli to launch a VR or Virtual Reality experience for his upcoming film Bahubali: The Conclusion. The film is the sequel to the super-hit Bahubali that was released last year and became one of the top-grossing films of all time in India.
Rajamouli launched two new VR offerings at the Jio MAMI Mumbai film festival, along with Raja Koduri, Senior Vice president and Chief architect of the AMD Radeon Technologies Group.
A 6-minute video of the so-called 360 experience of the Bahubali set was launched on YouTube on Sunday for fans to get a lifelike feel for the set. The film was first shown at MAMI a day earlier. Fans can also use the Google cardboard VR to enjoy the set experience from the comfort of their homes.
AMD Radeon and Rajamouli also launched a video teaser for the full VR experience of Bahubali: The Conclusion on Sunday. The VR experience will be launched just before the film is released in 2017 and special booths will set up in the theaters for the purpose, where HTC Vive or Oculus VR headsets will be tethered to a powerful AMD processing system.
The VR experience will let fans ride horses, fight battles and interactively engage with Bahubali. This will be the first full VR experience for any film in India.
"Bahubali is very grand. So we wanted people to experience it first hand what it is like to be on the set of the movie," Rajamouli told HuffPost India. "Although the set experience is just a teaser. There is much more to come. I am very excited by this new storytelling medium of VR. Gives me ample opportunity to take people to the world of Bahubali."
