Members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) took to the streets of Bengaluru after one of their workers was hacked to death in broad daylight yesterday, ANI reported.
According to The Times of India, Rudresh R, a 35-year-old RSS worker, was attacked by assailants on the busy Kamaraj Road, near MG Road, in Bengaluru on Sunday at 11.30 am. He was headed home after a meeting and had stopped to speak to some friends on the way.
A real-estate agent who was also into the milk business, Rudresh was the mandal president of the Shivajinagar shakha of the RSS as well as secretary of the BJP Shivajinagar. He was rushed to Bowring Hospital, where he was declared brought dead. He is survived by his wife and two children.
Police have registered a case, according to NDTV. Additional Commissioner of Bengaluru Police (East) P Harishekaran said, "We are working on specific leads and are hopeful of arresting the culprits." No arrests have been made so far.
Last evening, RSS workers staged a protest in front of the Commercial Road Police Station, demanding the arrest of the assailants by 8 pm, before moving their agitation to the site of the murder.
Police believe the murder was a result of personal rivalry, though RSS workers feel it was part of a series of politically motivated attacks on the organisation.
