KANPUR -- Inspired by Prime Minister's Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, a resident of Vidhnu village in Kanpur district has built a toilet by selling her mangalsutra.

Latha Diwakar has become an inspiration in the region for taking on her husband aggressively after disclosing that she had sold her mangalsutra for ₹17,000 to complete her goal.

Latha's husband, Baburam always gave an excuse that money should be spent on their daughter's marriage rather than on building a toilet.

Diwakar said she also sold her calf as she discovered that the cost of building a toilet is ₹25,000.

Babulal finally caved in after realising the importance of sanitation and readily supported his wife.
