Loud explosions were heard early morning on Tuesday as security forces stepped up the counter attack against militants who had entered a government building in Jammu and Kashmir's Pampore.

An unconfirmed number of militants had holed up inside the Entrepreneur Development Institute (EDI) building, situated on the outskirts of Srinagar, on Monday, leaving one soldier injured in the encounter.

According to a report in the Hindustan Times, loud explosions were heard till 1 AM on Monday night and again at 5:30 AM on Tuesday morning.

The constant firing suggests that the army is retaliating to the attacks by the militants, who are reportedly hiding on the sixth and seventh floors of the hostel building, hoping to either kill them or take them out of the institute.

A police officer reportedly said the militants were changing their positions constantly and security forces had earlier fired rockets and used light machine guns to confine them.

In February, terrorists had entered the EDI campus after ambushing a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) envoy killing seven people, including three army commandos.
