After news that the critically-acclaimed Marathi film Sairat is going to be remade in four south Indian languages, filmmaker Nagraj Manjule will now have the pleasure to see it made in Punjabi as well.

According to a report by SpotboyE, one of Sairat's producers Zee Studios is teaming up with leading north Indian production house White Hill Productions (WHP) to remake the film in Punjabi.

After Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam, Punjabi will be the fifth language Sairat will be remade in.

SpotboyE reported:

"Director Pankaj Batra, who has helmed Naughty Jatts, Goreyan Nu Dafa Karo and Dildariyan in the past has been brought on board for the project. However, the cast is yet to be finalised. The film will go on floors once everything is in place."

Sairat, which released in April this year, captured the nuances that define the caste and class boundaries, gender divides, and politics in rural Maharashtra — via a Romeo and Juliet-esque story about two teenagers.

Directed by noted filmmaker Manjule, the film stars debutant actors Rinku Rajguru and Akash Thosar in key roles.

The film also holds the record for being the highest earning Marathi film of all time, with worldwide box-office collections over the ₹100 crore mark.
