As October approaches, all e-commerce websites are gearing up for their festive season sales. This is the time of the year when the average Indian consumer spends the maximum money on products that are heavily discounted.
Here are a few major players in the e-commerce space who are going to offer a lot of deals.
The e-commerce giant has been beating Flipkart in the past few months to gain the first spot in the Indian market, thanks to their regularly-held sales. For the festive season, it is holding the Great Indian Festival Sale from 1 to 5 October.
Apart from discounts on clothing, electronics, accessories and fashion, Amazon is offering an additional 15% discount to HDFC card holders on the app and 10% on the website.
Amazon has also tied up with companies such as OnePlus and LeEco to offer prizes and discounts on their products. Amazon Prime customers would have an access to the lightning deals 30 minutes earlier than the other consumers. The company has a chrome extension called Amazon assistant which can help the users discover more deals easily.
Flipkart's Big Billion Day sale got famous a couple of years ago when the company offered a lot of discounts but there were a lot of price goof ups and technical errors. But after that, the company has redeemed itself with better deals and a reliable shopping experience.
This year Big Billion Day 2016 sale will be held from 2 to 6 October. The Indian e-commerce portal's emphasis this year is on electronics. As the sale on 2 October is on Lifestyle, TV, appliances, on 3 October the focus in on Mobile and accessories, on 4 October on electronics and then the rest of the two days on a general sale.
Flipkart has tied up with SBI to offer its cardholders a special discount. It also has items such as Motorola Bluetooth speakers and Thailand holiday trips to give away. Also, when products are added to the 'wishlist' several times, they will garner more discount.
Snapdeal recently went through a major brand overhaul with a new logo. Now it means to make a bigger mark in the market with its Unbox Diwali sale. The company has spent over ₹200 crore for rebranding and launching their premium Snapdeal gold service in competition to Amazon Prime and Flipkart First.
The e-commerce portal is offering straight up 5% to 10% additional discounts on all deals with all Credit or Debit cards. But the catch is that the purchase should of above ₹1000. It is offering hourly deals and 14-day return policy as well.
Although Shopclues is not as big as Amazon, Flipkart, and Snapdeal it offers a lot of deals on items of daily use. And to lure more customers it is going to hold its festive sale for 10 days from 1 October to 10 October. Apart from offering the deals on most of the major categories, it is also offering EMI on purchases above ₹5000 and a cashback of ₹500 on the first payment of EMI.
Tata's new e-commerce portal Tata CliQ is also holding a shopping fest called Festober for a whole month where it is offering a free Vistara Air ticket every day for the first week along with the deals.
Other players such as PayTM are not holding special festivals it will be offering discounts. According to a report by Economic Times, the sales last year in the festive season were around $500-600 million. But this year merchants won't be pushing high discount on the items. Some of the analysts are suggesting that the sales won't be more than ₹10000 crore this year.
