Filmmaker Karan Johar recently found himself in the midst of a controversy when Ajay Devgn alleged that the filmmaker has paid ₹25 lakh to Kamaal R Khan to diss his upcoming film Shivaay. The producer-director has finally broken his silence on the issue.

On Friday, 44-year-old Johar told The Indian Express: "My self-respect, reputation and (the) company's reputation, and my upbringing, don't allow me to dignify this question with an answer."

"My self-respect, reputation and (the) company's reputation, and my upbringing, don't allow me to dignify this question with an answer."

Devgn and Johar's films Shivaay and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, are supposed to hit the theatres on 28 October this year. A few days back KRK--who is known for spewing sexist, insulting rants on social media sites frequently--said something unflattering about Devgn's Shivaay. However, when the trailer of Johar's Ae Dil Hai Mushkil released, the same man had some nice things to say about the film. Now, this isn't the first time he is saying good things about a film or a person. He recently participated in the Flying Jatt 'Beat Pe Booty' challenged and wished the film and its stars well.

However, Devgn released a taped conversation between Shivaay producer Kumar Mangat and Khan, where one can clearly hear Khan alleging that Johar had paid him ₹25 lakh to diss Shivaay.

Later, Khan held a press conference in Mumbai, where he denied taking money from Johar, and said he was being made a scapegoat and Devgn is using his name to "target Karan Johar".

Devgn, on his part, issued a new statement in which the actor said he only wanted to make people aware of what Khan had said in the audio recording.

"We have only made you aware of what KRK has said. KRK is contradicting himself in explanations about what he has said in the recording and what we all have just heard in his postured press conference," his statement read.

"He has not denied that it was his voice in the recording and he is now making excuses and contradicting himself. Where is the sanity here? You have heard what I have heard. It is up to you all to decide. It's his word against his own word. I have never in my life spoken to nor met this man," Devgn added.
