From a past couple of months, Reliance Jio has been all over the news. From unlimited data offers to speeds, controversy with COAI, competition with other telecom operators, confusion in plans and internal communication, and the commercial launch date. These are some things associated with the brand.
But tomorrow, Reliance is holding their Annual General Meet at Mumbai where the chairman Mukesh Ambani is expected to announce a commercial launch of Jio.
Reports suggest that initial launch will still have three months of trail unlimited 4G data offer for the consumers but the prepaid and postpaid tariff rates would be declared tomorrow.
From the past couple of weeks, the company has been announcing partnerships with a lot of smartphone makers although most of the Reliance store have been giving a SIM card to any 4G smartphone holder.
Consumers have reported that there have been long queues outside the Reliance digital stores to get a Jio SIM. There have been complaints that the activation of the SIM is taking days and many non-reliance stores are asking for money in exchange of a SIM which is actually free.
A lot of questions have been raised about the 'test' program of reliance which now has over 6 million consumers according to a report by PhoneRadar. While banking firm Morgan Stanley believes that the company will reach a figure of 40 million subscribers by the end of the next fiscal year.
The telecom companies have accused Jio of using a lack of clear guidelines as a loophole to call their commercial operation a trial.
On the other hand, Jio has spurred a data war amongst the telecom companies. Airtel, Idea, and Vodafone have all slashed their data pack rates and it is speculated that more discounts are to be followed.
Earlier this year, the company started giving their employees a chance to invite people to buy an LYF phone and get a Jio SIM. Later, it relinquished the invite system.
