EDM fans, rejoice. Electric Daisy Carnival, one of the biggest dance music festivals in the world, is finally coming to India.
According to a press release, the very first Indian edition of the humongous festival — described as a "multidimensional music experience" — will take place in Delhi on November 12 and 13. The claim is that it will feature one of the largest line-ups of international and Indian artistes "ever witnessed in the country".
The EDC, as it is generally referred to, has its flagship festival in Las Vegas, United States, where it drew nearly 4 lakh visitors last year. Originally starting off as a series of raves held in Los Angeles during the early '90s, its current avatar was born in 1997, at the Shrine Expo Hall in LA. Over the years, as the festival has expanded in scale and gone on to become a massive event with multiple spin-offs in cities in the U.S., the United Kingdom, Mexico, Brazil, and Japan.
India, where EDM's popularity was kickstarted by nightclub culture, bolstered by festivals like Sunburn and Supersonic, is its newest outpost. "Ever since I was a kid, I've been fascinated by the country's colorful and exotic culture," said Pasquale Rotella, founder and CEO of Insomniac Events, the events company behind the festival. "I know it's a place where the magic of EDC can come alive in a truly unique way."
The festival has been brought to India by old hands Only Much Louder, who are best known for organising the multi-city NH7 Weekender festivals as well as the comedy festival Stage Forty Twoo. In the same statement, OML's CEO Vijay Nair was quoted as saying: "There are very few festivals that every EDM fan in the world talks about. Once I witnessed EDC in Las Vegas, I could see why. I have never seen a festival of this scale so beautifully executed. We can't wait to bring that experience to Indian fans and blow their minds."
Details about the line-up, ticket prices, and venue(s) are yet to be revealed.
