Prisma has made a mark, standing out among countless apps by offering something fresh and unique. The app which became an instant hit globally uses artificial intelligence to turn your photos into works of art.
People all over the world have gone crazy over the app and it has made filters cool again. Mundane everyday photos transform into a Picasso painting. The app continues its reign as the #1 photography app in Play Store and the App Store.
But now it has two competitors sniping at its heels. One in the photography department and the other in video. Like Prisma, both these apps use artificial intelligence to transform photos and videos. Let's take a look at them.
Some might call it a competitor, others might call it a clone. Alter too operates on machine learning. Once a user uploads a photo, it is sent to the server for the transformation. But one of its striking features is that you can upload your own pattern as well, based on which it will transform your photo.
Alter uses a neural network algorithm to turn one picture into the pattern of another picture. So there are endless possibilities for transforming an image. The app's design is similar to Prisma and there are a couple of built-in filters as well. It is available both on Android and iOS.
While Prisma has said that it will incorporate video in the app sometime in the future, we have an app that is doing it already. Artisto also has a bunch of filters you can apply to a video and make it look funky. However, there is a limit of 10 seconds per video.
Just as Prisma, Artisto too comes from Russia, developed by a company called Mail.ru. In fact, Prisma's founder Alexey Moiseenkov was a former employee of the company. Currently, the app allows users to apply 14 different filters on a video. It is expected that in the future more filters will be added. The app is also available both on iOS and Android.
Both apps have their kinks and they don't work as well as Prisma. They are not even in the ballpark of Prisma's popularity. But both present a strong use case and a different dimension to the technology.
