At an event held by Mircosoft on Machine Learning former Indian cricketer, Javagal Srinath said that data and analysis of the game helped the maestro Sachin Tendulkar a lot in his career.

At the event, the company unveiled a new platform that enables developers to incorporate multiple parameters like playing conditions, weather, the form of the teams playing, and the nature of cricket ground to estimate these target scores. Srinath was on of the panelists who highlighted the importance of technology in Cricket.

"Sachin Tendulkar had once said his career was extended due to the use of technology. It made him find a solution based on quick feedback which helped him correct his mistakes, mostly batting mistakes," Srinath said.

"The existing system prioritizes the strength of the batsmen from top position, hence if you reverse the order, you can confuse the system to some extent. This could be ideally fixed when every batsman has a ranking and that ranking is accommodated into the system, thereby providing the true strength of the team's batting strength which is possible done with this system," he said.

He also highlighted that no matter how much technology will take over the notion that coach's role is going to be shrunk is a myth. He said that the coaches have to leverage the technology the most to help the team out and prepare them for difficult situations.

"We believe the possibilities for machine learning in sports are vast - from monitoring player condition on the field to predicting injuries and taking early preventive actions," said Joseph Sirosh, Corporate Vice President of Data Group at Microsoft.

Former Indian Cricketer Aakash Chopra also pitched in saying early adoption of the technology would help teams a lot. "In the 90s the coaches were skeptical to even try out simple techniques such as video analysis or wagon wheel," Chopra said.

The company wants to concentrate more on the government project and farming as well. Microsoft is also extending their education pilot in Andhra Pradesh to Punjab.

Microsoft is using their machine learning technology to help many sports teams across the world. The Zebra American football team in NFL uses artificial intelligence to track player movements in the stadium to improve their performances. Even some of the teams in NASCAR is using this technology.
