Over the past couple of years, Milind Soman has emerged as the poster-boy of marathon running. He organises Pinkathon, a running event that aims to raise awareness about breast cancer. Soman is also a regular fixture at several other marathons across the world.

And it now seems like interest in marathons, runs in the Soman family. The Facebook page of The Great Indian Run (TGIR) shared a video which shows Soman running alongside is mother, Usha Soman. According to TGIR, the picture was taken in Manor, a district near Thane, Maharashtra. The 76-year-old is clad in a saree and is seen running effortlessly barefoot.

TGIR is a marathon that extends over two weeks, where the participants are supposed to run from Ahmedabad to Mumbai. It's in its final leg at present.

This is not the first time Soman's mother has participated in an athletic event. In February last year, she walked 100 kilometres in less than 48 hours for a fundraiser. She was accompanied by her three daughters and reportedly didn't take any assistance from physiotherapists during the duration of the walk.

Later Soman told agencies that though though they have discovered her mother's exploits just then, she has been participating in the 100-kilometre trek for years.

"I give credit to my mom for inspiring and encouraging me to take sports seriously. She was a professor of bio-chemistry and at the age of 60 when she retired she started trekking," he said.

He added: "It is unfortunate that as a country we don't have this culture of promoting health and sports. I feel if women understand the value of sports like my mother did, than children will be encouraged to create that balance between sports and academics."

Recently, Soman told HuffPost India that he is collaborating with a Delhi-based designer to develop a lightweight saree than women can run in. Hope he is taking tips from his mom!
