A 17-year-old woman suffered serious burn injuries in Puducherry on Saturday after a man set himself on fire and then grabbed her, making sure that she was engulfed by the flames too.
According to an NDTV report, Senthil, the 32-year-old driver, had been stalking and harassing the woman for the past one year.
On 30 July, as soon as the woman's parents left the house for work, Senthil broke in, poured kerosene and set himself on fire and grabbed the victim tightly, making sure she suffered burns too.
According to police, he had a grudge because the victim had refused his advances time and again.
The accused died later in the evening of the incident, leaving the 17-year-old with 75 percent burn injuries.
A year ago, Senthil had also accused the woman's family of chopping off his right arm and leg. However, investigations had revealed that he had fallen on railway tracks in a drunken state.
In spite of the victim's family having filed four complaints against Senthil, the police had not taken any action against him. The report quoted victim's father as saying, 'The police didn't take any action... they said he is an accused but there is not much they can do...this happened even before he lost his limbs."
On 24 June this year, an Infosys employee, S Swathi, was stabbed to death by a stalker at a railway station in Chennai.
