We all have multiple digital devices at home and work these days, and often need to transfer files from one device to another. So, if you have an Android phone and are working on a PC or a Mac you'd usually use a USB data cable to transfer files. If a data cable is not handy, then it is quite easy to take the wireless route and transfer any file quite easily.

Text, Links and Small Files

If you are going through your Twitter timeline and spot a great article, or your friend sends you a deal on that item you have wanted to buy for weeks, then, instead of emailing yourself or going through the effort of bookmarking, you should use Pushbullet.

This application lets you send links, notes, lists, and small files to all your devices in a jiffy. It is available on all platforms including iOS, Android, and the web. It also has extensions for Chrome, Safari, and Firefox.

Photos and Videos

When it comes to pictures and clips, cloud is the way to go. The best way is to set your Google Photos account so that the photos you have on your phone are synced to the cloud. You can set preferences, such as uploading only when connected to WiFi or at anytime. This also saves you space on your phone.

Though Google Photo sync is seamless for Android, you can use other services such as Dropbox or Flickr. Now, even Facebook provides you the facility to store photos.

Bigger Files

If you have files that are around 100 MB in size, the local WiFi network would be ideal. There are many applications that enable you to transfer files easily. One of the simplest applications you can use is AirDroid.

Airdroid

Once you install AirDroid from the Play Store, the set up is easy. The application will ask you to sign up but you can skip that step. Note the URL, which would be, "http://192.168.0.8888" and enter that in your PC browser. Both the devices should be connected to the same WiFi network for the file transfer to happen.

After entering the URL, you have to accept the connection on your phone. A file explorer will appear on the screen with all your files listed. You can pick any file you want and download it to your Mac or PC. The app has a web and desktop client as well.

There are a lot of other applications out there to help you with file transfer. If you're looking to use USB cable between your Android phone and Mac you should check out this guide.
