Amazon has launched their membership service Amazon Prime in another bid to outdo Indian e-commerce giant Flipkart. Consumers have been waiting for this service since long as it is very popular in the countries such as the US and UK.
The members of Amazon prime would get guaranteed 1 or 2-day delivery for their purchases on Amazon. There are no limits on the number of fast deliveries a customer can avail.
The company is offering 60 days of the trial period to the customers. After that, they can choose to sign up for a year by paying the inaugural price of ₹499 for a year. Later, the subscription fee might be increased to ₹999.
The membership wouldn't mean that the users would be able to get anything in one or two days. Only the items with the Amazon Prime logo listed beside them would be included.
Charges for the fast delivery services from Amazon are ₹49 for a two-day delivery and ₹99 for the next day delivery on an average. Given that, the deal seems very lucrative. It also offers the customers to get same day delivery for ₹50 instead of ₹150.
"We are very excited to bring Prime to our customers in India. With Prime, guaranteed one-day delivery becomes an everyday experience instead of an occasional indulgence, and with no minimum purchases, it provides unlimited convenience all year long," said Amit Agarwal, Vice-President & Country Head, Amazon India.
Amazon is not launching their content service which includes Amazon Video and Amazon Music. Although the company said that the video streaming is coming soon. Amazon Prime Video includes shows such as Mr. Robot and The Man In The High Castle. Reports suggest that the company will be investing a huge sum of $300 million for the original Prime video content in India.
The prime competitor for Amazon, Flipkart also has a similar service called Flipkart first. The membership fees of Flipkart first is 500 per year. Like Amazon Prime, it also offers free fast deliveries and discounted one-day deliveries. Amazon recently grabbed the number 1 spot from Flipkart in terms of app downloads in the shopping space.
