Two Dalit men claim to have been brutally beaten by around 25 people in Maharashtra because they pulled ahead of their motorcycles on Friday, NDTV reported.
The police have filed a case under Prevention of Atrocity Act against 25 unidentified persons, but so far, no one has been arrested.
The incident which occurred in the Beed district on Friday follows on the heels of another horrific episode of violence against Dalits in which at least four men from their community were brutally beaten for skinning a dead cow in Gujarat.
The Dalit men in Beed claim that the beatings got worse after the accused spotted a photo of B.R. Ambedkar on their motorcycles, the news channel reported.
"After spotting the photograph, they beat me with a belt. They started beating us and wanted to kill us. They took me on their bike and kept threatening us and abusing our caste," Akash Waghmare, 23, told NDTV.
In the Maharashtra incident, six Dalit men were traveling on three bikes which overtook the accused, but four of them have not yet given a statement to the police.
