AAP To Give UP Assembly Elections A Miss, To Fight Civic Polls Instead

The decision was taken considering the party's resources.

In a meeting last week, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) decided that it will not contest the upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh in 2017.

According to a report in The Times of India, the meeting, which was attended by AAP supremo and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, said that the party wanted to 'concentrate' on the Punjab polls.

The decision was reportedly taken after considering the party's resources and its strategy to focus on smaller states such as Goa and Punjab instead.

While AAP may not be contesting the assembly elections in UP, senior party members told TOI that they would instead fight the municipal polls next year.
