Three days ago, Reliance Jio announced a partnership with Samsung to offer 4G services on Samsung smartphones. With newer details emerging, it is clear that Samsung is not the only phone maker Jio is partnering with. It has also tied up with Apple and HP to provide similar services.

Jio 4G services will be offered to users of the last two generations of the iPhone. So anyone with an iPhone 6, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s plus and iPhone SE will be able to avail of this offer. TelecomTalkhas reported that Jio has tied up with HP as well to offer 3 months of unlimited data to buyers of new HP handsets.

In order to acquire a Reliance Jio SIM, the user has to download the Jio app and generate a code. Then the user can visit any Reliance store, fill a form and get a card. The SIM has to be verified by calling on 1977 and once it is activated, it can be used on any 4G enabled phone.

Prepaid tariff rates for Jio SIM cards are also out. The call rates are 2 paise per second for voice calls and 5 paise per second for video calls.

The data rate once the pack is over is also out. Jio will just charge 0.5 paise for 10 KB which is very reasonable as that would mean that you can use 100 MB of data for ₹50 if you don't have any pack activated.

Jio's marketing arm is working hard to spread the word about the phone ahead of the expected 15 August launch. After co-sponsoring many sports and entertainment events, it is now going to be the principal sponsor of the Indian Olympics team. With 111 members, India will be fielding its largest ever Olympic contingent in Rio next month.

Meanwhile, competitors are taking steps to ensure that their customers don't flock to Reliance Jio once it is launched. Airtel is now offering more data for the same price on their prepaid connections. The increase in data amount in various packages ranges from 40 to 67 percent.

Airtel will now offer 3 GB data instead of 2 GB for ₹455. And, if you buy a pack of ₹989 you will get 10 GB of 4G data instead of the 6.5 GB offered earlier. Smaller packs have also gained in value. You will get 30 MB of data for just ₹5. Other service providers are also likely to slash their data tariffs soon.
