Why You Are Suddenly Hearing So Much About Prisma And Pokemon

An app which has more active users than Twitter. Another one which makes Instagram filters boring.

If your Facebook newsfeed is anything like mine, you are probably wondering about the deluge of posts and news about two apps seems to be taking the world by storm--Pokemon Go and Prisma. Let's see what the fuss is all about.

Pokemon Go

Children across the globe in the 1990s and the early 2000s grew up on a steady diet of Pokemon cartoons and toys. The adorable characters are now back in a new avatar, with Nintendo releasing Pokemon Go which you can play on your mobile phone. The app, which is available on iOS and Android, urges users to go out in the real world to catch the Pokemon. The players have to roam around to get Pokemon, fight with the other players, join a team (Red, Blue or Yellow). You can collect goodies and upgrade your Pokemon.

The augmented reality based game lets users see the Pokemon in real life. You might find a Pokemon in your cab or on the road. The app has attained #1 in the App store and Play Store. It also has broken a lot of records for the games. Pokemon Go has more active users than even Twitter. The shares of Nintendo are on a surge. The Pokemon fans have gone crazy going in the parks to play or even landing up at a police station. The company has even halted the international rollout as the servers are going down because of the traffic. It looks like the frenzy will continue.

Sadly the game is not available in India yet, although it is possible to download and play it on Android.

Just when we thought Instagram is the epitome of the photo apps and filters, there is another app now which makes it look dull. Prisma is an iOS app which makes your photo look like amazing paintings. The app uses the artificial intelligence for the filters to give the picture a feel such that they belong to an art gallery.

Instagram was popular for the fast photo sharing and the effects. This app trumps it hands down when we are talking about effects. Once you apply the effect you can swipe left and right to increase or decrease the intensity.

Prisma has the ability to make mundane photos look very interesting. The company has confirmed that later this month there will be an Android version. It has also secured a funding of $5.5 million. You can download the app from here.

While there is a lot of talk about the death of the apps, the impact of these two apps show that the good ones are still appreciated.
