It’s no secret that Leonardo DiCaprio has what you’d call a “thing” for models. Gisele Bündchen, Toni Garrn, Kelly Rohrbach, Bar Refaeli, and now, (reportedly) Nina Agdal are just a few of Leo’s lady loves.
As it turns out, the Academy Award winner has been enamored with the women of the runway for pretty much his entire acting career.
The Huffington Post had the chance to chat with celebrity and nightlife photographer Patrick McMullan, who just teamed up exclusively with Getty to syndicate his massive collection of photos. McMullan shared a story about Leo that perfectly encapsulates the actor’s love of models.
The year was 1995.
“Leo was in New York and he was a little cagey, and young, really young. I got to know him, and he got to see that I was around a lot, and saw that I was a good guy, I guess,” McMullan said. “It was fashion week, and he was running around to all the fashion shows. We were at Nicole Miller’s fashion show and we were leaving, and I said, ‘Hey guys, Liz Tilberis [former editor of Harper’s Bazaar] is having dinner.’ And he said, ‘Will there be models there?’ I said, ‘Oh, yeah, there’s going to be a whole bunch!’”
Priceless. Of course Leo wanted to hang out with models! Who wouldn’t?
That story was a little precursor to what happened next. According to McMullan, there were no cabs to be found that night.
“I remember I hailed a limousine,” he told HuffPost, “and [Leo, David Blaine and Lukas Haas] go, ‘You can do that?!’ It was really funny.”
“I said, ‘Well, we can try.’ So I gave the guy 20 bucks and he drove us to Indochine, and we had a good time. But [while] we’re waiting for the cab, I said, ‘Let me get [photograph] you guys,’ and [Leo] goes, ‘All right, let’s do it like this.’”
The result was this:
Leo is young, fresh-faced and fancy-free. And clearly having the time of his life, knowing a party full of models is on the horizon.
Some things never change.
