Russian national and Agra resident Olga Efimenkova, who was on a hunger strike because her mother-in-law had allegedly thrown her out of the house, was finally reunited with her husband and given a portion of the family house to live in. The situation was resolved after the Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj tweeted Efimenkova's story and tagged Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.

Within a few hours of Swaraj's tweet, an FIR was filed against Efimenkova's in-laws.

Efimenkova, who had married Vikrant Singh Chandel in 2011, sat outside her in-laws house all through Sunday on a hunger strike, claiming that she, her husband and daughter had been barred from entering the house. She claimed that she had endured a lot of mental torture because she was a foreigner and had not brought a dowry with her.

Lauding Yadav's swift response, Swaraj later said that such incidents marred India's image across the world.
