Indian Muslims have been asked to target senior officers from Indian Police Service (IPS) and Indian Administrative Service (IAS) by Maulana Asim Umar, the chief of Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), news reports said.

Umar, who has been the AQIS chief since September 2014, in a statement indicted the state and its departments for the incidents against Muslims in India.

“Otherwise how could anyone dare to just take knives and cut Muslims like vegetables? We say if the Indian state is not involved in the massacre of Muslims, then Muslim youth should also be given free hand, as given to Hindu mobsters during riots,” SITE Intelligence Group, a non-governmental counter terror group that researches and analyses terror threats, said quoting Umar, according to a news report in The Hindustan Times.

A native of Sambhal, UP, Umar was born as Sanaul Haq and fled from the country in 1999. He has urged the Indian Muslims to follow the example of their brethren in Syria. Hailing the acts of terror carried out in Europe recently, Umar praised how one single Mujahid after another has disturbed the entire continent.

“Kill senior officers of institutions and administrative departments that get (people to) start these riots. Target IPS and IAS officers, cause them financial losses,” said the statement.

Indian investigators will now look into the statement and try to gauge the effect it has had so far. “We will analyse the statement,” National Investigation Agency Chief Sharad Kumar told The Hindustan Times.

This statement comes days after Umar was designated as a global terrorist by the US state department. It has also designated AQIS as a ‘foreign terrorist organisation’.
