Bihar Toppers Scam: I Only Wanted Dad To Help Me Pass, Says Ruby Rai

'I Asked Papa To Help Me Pass But He Made Me A Topper Instead,' Says Ruby Rai

Bihar's controversial topper in Class XII examinations for the Humanities stream this year, Ruby Rai, has told her interrogators that she never wanted to top the exams and had only asked her father to arrange for her to secure enough marks so that she could pass.

According to a report in The Indian Express, she said, “Maine to Papa se kaha tha pass karwa dijiye, unhone ne to top hi karwa diya.” (I had only asked Papa to get me passed but he went ahead and made me topper).

Rai, whose result has since been cancelled, could not answer basic questions during a re-test and was also unable to pronounce "Political Science" in an interaction with reporters. During the re-test, she wrote a one-line 'essay' on the saint-poet Tulsidas.

Talking to the Indian Express, Manu Maharaj, the Patna special SP who is heading the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the scam, said, “The arts topper was very forthright in accepting that she did not deserve to be a topper.”

“She had expected second division at best. She now blames her guardians and Vishnu Roy College principal, Bachcha Rai, for making her topper.”

Ruby's comments during a TV interview after she was declared the topper took the lid off the toppers scam in Bihar.
