In keeping with its tradition of honouring noted personalities from across the globe, Google has dedicated a special 'doodle' this Monday recognizing the renowned Indian music composer, Rahul Dev "RD" Burman, on his 77th birth anniversary.

The doodle, which has small illustrations portraying vignettes from classic R.D. Burman film songs, appears above the Google search bar.

Burman was the son of the noted musician Sachin Dev Burman, and he followed in his father's footsteps to become a music composer for Bollywood films.

Fondly known as Pancham da, Burman composed his first hit song 'Sar jo tera chakaraaye' when he was just nine years old, and which his father incorporated in the film Pyaasa (1957).

Google, on its official blog said that Burman revolutionised Bollywood songs with musical influences from all over the world.

"As his career developed, he was known for making music out of anything from laughter to blowing over the tops of glass bottles. Bringing in influences from all over the world, from disco, to funk, to cabaret, RD Burman revolutionised Bollywood and brought films like Caravan (1971) to life with the iconic 'Piya tu ab to aaja'," the blog says.

Burman was married to the renowned playback singer Asha Bhosle, who also sang a majority of his songs. He passed away on 4 January 1994 when he was 54 years old.
