Renowned Pakistani qawwali singer Amjad Sabri died at the age of 45 after his car was attacked and shot at in Karachi on the afternoon of 22 June . The artist's untimely death has led to an outpouring of rage and grief throughout Pakistan, and in other parts of the world.
Hailing from a family of artists known for their contributions to sufi music and arifana kalam, Amjad was regarded as one of the finest qawwals in the world. He was the son of the late artist Qawwal Ghulam Farid Sabri, who had established the Sabri brother qawwali group along with Amjad's uncle, the late Maqbool Sabri in the mid-1950s.
