Kangana Ranaut Calls Out Salman Khan On His Rape Comments, Calls Them 'Insensitive' And 'Horrible'

Proving yet again that she’s not one to bow down to the unwritten diktats of Bollywood, Kangana Ranaut, at an event held Wednesday evening in Mumbai, said what no other leading actress has said yet.

When asked about what she felt about Salman Khan’s comparison of a rigorous shooting schedule with getting raped, Ranaut said, “We all agree that it’s a horrible thing to say. Something that is extremely insensitive. But let’s not encourage that mentality where we want to point fingers at each other and want to feel greater by running people down by trolling them.”

She said she felt sorry for those insensitive remarks. “As a society, we have to take responsibility and stand united. It’s a disgrace for the whole society and not an individual. So, like what Salim uncle says is right, that we are all sorry about it. It’s not about an individual. We all collectively feel sorry for that thought process.”

It is no secret that actresses in Bollywood have to toe the line and be in the good books of superstars, who pretty much take the final call on who’ll be cast in the film opposite them.

Unsurprisingly, most actresses aren’t likely to speak against Khan, who’s notorious for ensuring that work stops trickling in your direction if you take an unpopular stand concerning him (ask Viveik Oberoi and Arijit Singh.)

However, Ranaut, as we’ve seen in the past, has yet again proven that she’s truly fearless in an industry that’s governed by fear.

Incidentally, Kangana was Sultan's producer Aditya Chopra’s first choice for the role that’s being now essayed by Anushka Sharma in the wrestling drama.

While the real reason why the actress rejected the role isn’t known, the official one was the date clash between the shooting schedules of Sultan and Rangoon, a film she had already committed to.
