Jaipur boy Aman Bansal has topped the Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) for 2016, the results of which were declared on Sunday.

In the highly competitive exam on the basis of which admissions to the prestigious IITs and other top engineering colleges are granted, the second position was grabbed by Bhavesh Dhingra of Yamuna Nagar, while Kunal Goyal, also of Jaipur, stood third.

Bansal from the pink city has topped the JEE with 320 marks to clinch the top slot.

17-year-old Bansal, who now wants to pursue computer science from IIT Bombay, told Hindustan Times that it was the 'Kota studying pattern' that helped him with his success.

"I studied for around five to six hours everyday to succeed in the exam," Bansal told HT.

Kota, a small city in Rajasthan, had recently been in the eye of storm after about 57 students committed suicide, unable to deal with the pressure of the JEE preparations.

An earlier HuffPost India report states that over 1,50,000 students are enrolled in a cluster of coaching institutes any time of the year. The town's hyper competitive coaching institutes have earned a reputation for helping students "crack" the IIT entrance and that thousands have made it since the business picked up in the early 2000s.

The results of the JEE 2016 were declared early on Sunday.

According to The Indian Express, as many as 36,566 candidates have cleared the exam.

Over 1,55,948 candidates had registered for the exam and 36,566 qualified, as per the official JEE website. Of these 31,996 are boys and 4,570 are girls.

Riya Singh from Kota is the topper among girls with an all-India ranking of 133.
