LeEco Launches Le 2, Le Max 2 In India Without 3.5 mm Headphone Jack

Chinese manufacturer LeEco launched two new phones in India today at an event in New Delhi. The company launched their second generation phones Le 2 and Le Max 2, priced respectively at ₹11999 and ₹22999.

One unique feature common to both phones is the missing 3.5 mm headphone jack. Instead, they have adapted a custom Continual Digital Lossless Audio (CLDA) standard for the phones. The headphones and the charger will be using the same port. Now, it is to be seen if the audio standards are as high as the maker's claims. And, this also means that you can't use your old headphones. Also, since the headphone has a USB-C connector you can't charge the phone while using headphones.

In their design the phones are similar to their predecessor. They have VoLTE (Voice over LTE facility) technology. LeEco claims that the phones come with a better fingerprint sensor on the back, which they have developed with Qualcomm, and which can read greasy and wet fingerprints as well.

Le 2 Max has two variants, one with 4 GB RAM and 32 GB storage and the other with 6 GB RAM and 64 GB storage. The variants are priced at ₹22999 and ₹29999 respectively. Le 2 Max will face competition from Nextbit Robin, Xiaomi Mi 5 and the upcoming OnePlus 3. Le 2 on the other hand will compete against the likes of Moto G, Zuk Z1 and Xiaomi Redmi Note 3.

LeEco has also launched an e-commerce website

So far, the company has had a successful run in India. The LeEco 1 phones did quite well, selling 220,000 units in the month of February alone. Between February and May, Le Eco claims to have sold over half a million phones. It is now going to move away from an online-only sales model. LeEco phones will be sold in retails stores as well, with the company aiming to achieve almost 70 percent sales offline by September 2016.

After launching their first two phones, they recently launched Le 1s (Eco) for ₹ 9999 with a premium membership program that includes exclusive content in the form of movies, music, and live concerts from Hungama, Yupp TV, and Eros Now. LeEco says that all the music streamed will be 'lossless', and that it will be delivering more content to its Indian smartphone users soon.
