The Indian smartphone industry is booming. The country is now ranked second globally in the volume of smartphone shipment. Every other day a new phone is launched, adding yet another option to a mind boggling array of choices. So, this is a good time to take a quick look at the best smartphone offerings priced under ₹15000.
1. Lenovo Zuk Z1
Zuk was spun off from Lenovo which began manufacturing smartphones in 2015 and they are making Indian foray with Zuk Z1. Priced at ₹13499, the phone has interesting specs. Instead of going with the Qualcomm 6xx processors, Zuk Z1 features the older Snapdragon 801 processor.
The phone has a 5.5 inch HD screen and 3 GB RAM. It has a 13 MP rear camera and uses a Sony sensor for enhanced photo quality. Zuk Z1 has a 4100 mAh battery with USB C and USB 3.0 charging, which speeds up charging and increases battery life. the phone also features a front-facing fingerprint sensor. However running the phone on the Android 5.1.1 based Cyanogen 12.1 might be a bit tricky, as the earlier Yu phone which had similar software didn't do very well in India.
2. Samsung J Series
Samsung gained the first spot in smartphone shipments in India this year, and their J series played a large role in this. More than anything, these smartphones are known for their design and performance.
Samsung Galaxy J5 (2016) has a 5.2-inch full-HD display along with 2 GB RAM. It runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor. Galaxy J5 features 16 GB internal storage with an option of expansion with the SD card. The phone has a battery life of 3100 mAh and is available at a price of ₹13990.
Samsung Galaxy J7 (2015) on the other hand a 5.5-inch full-HD display along with 2 GB RAM. The China variant has a 3 GB RAM. On the inside, Galaxy J7 sports Samsung's own Exynos 1.6GHz chip set . Galaxy J7 has 16 GB internal storage capacity with the option of enhancing it with the SD card. Galaxy J7 will set you back by ₹15990.
3. LeEco 1S
LeEco introduced themselves in January with the launch of LeEco 1s And LeEco Max. Their mid-range product, LeEco 1s, resonated well with users and they were able to sell a record 2 lakh devices during the month of February.
Most users have been wooed by the device's design. The phone has a 5.5-inch full HD screen, runs on 2.2GHz MediaTek Helio X10 processor with 3 GB RAM. It has a battery capacity of 3000 mAh with a USB C port. LeEco 1S has a 13 MP rear camera and 5 MP camera in the front. It runs on Android 5.1.1 software with Eco UI on top.
4. Moto G4 Plus
Moto G4 plus was launched in India on May 17 with a lot of expectation riding on it from Motorola and their parent company Lenovo. The G series phones are the most popular in the country among the Moto stable. So, this year they have stepped up their game with a 5.5-inch full HD screen and a fingerprint sensor on Moto G4 Plus. The phone runs on 1.5GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor with 2 or 3 GB RAM depending on the variant. The battery life is 3,000 mAh, with turbo-charging enabled.
The phone features a 16 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front camera. Its USP is fast software updates. Motorola has always prided itself on the updating of software, which is almost on par with Google's Nexus phones. So if you have the device you can expect Android N update within days once it is released. The 16 GB variant costs ₹13499 and the 32 GB variant costs ₹14999.
5. Redmi Note 3
The Chinese smartphone brand, Xiaomi, has been a very popular in India since its entry in July 2014. Xiaomi phones are applauded for their high-end specs packed in a budget-priced device. The brand's latest offering in the sub-15000 section is Redmi Note 3, which features a 5.5-inch full HD screen with a full metal body and premium looking design. It runs on Snapdragon 650 with 2 GB or 3 GB RAM, depending on the variant.
It has a rear 16 MP camera with PDAF (Phase Detection Auto Focus) and 5 MP front camera. The phone has a sizable battery capacity of 4000 mAh and an internal memory capacity of either 16 or 32 GB. The phone runs on Android 5.1.1, with MIUI 7 on top for software. The two variants are priced at ₹9999 and ₹11999 respectively.
